Exposed Coil Vase
To make this coil cup, I used multiple different designs of coils to make a unique vase. To start, I made a circular slab for the base of the cup. Then, I gradually made more and more coils, to put on the sides of the cup and build up the vase. In order to attatch the coils, I slipped and scored them on, or as I like to say, scratch and attatch. The glaze combination I used for this project was clear over ancient. I really like how this gives it an old, rustic look.
What Makes a Good Coil?
A good coil should be even, smooth, and unique. It should not be too thin or too thick, but just right. I used multiple designs in my coil vase such as the classic circular coil, a sqaure coil, and a coil that I think resembles an "s". Also, I used a coil that went side to side, shown in the pictures below. I really liked the creativity and freedom we got to use in this project, and I had a lot of fun with it.
