Overall Reflection
My favorite project to create was definitely the sgrafitto or the monster. We had a lot of freedom with these projects, and they both came out very nice. I had a lot of fun creating these pieces and they are some of my best. Something I struggled with was getting the walls of my sgrafitto plate to be even. They were either too think or too thin, so it was frustrating to try and get them to be even. But, after lots of patience, I got them how I wanted to be and they looked great.
The first time I walked into ceramics, I was very shy and unsure. I had never taken this sort of art class before, so I was scared of how skillful I was. I really didn't know anything except for how to make a pinch pot, but after lots of practice with multiple skills, I have grown very much as a person, and as a ceramicist. I have learned to be more patient, and I have learned that hard work doesn't come easily. Some of the techniques i never knew I would learn were wheel throwing (kind of), glazing, coil building, and more. I never knew how many different techniques and artists there were, but after doing these projects, I realized how unique and different they all were. For example, a pinch pot and a smoothed coil pot may look alike, but two completely different techniques were used to make them.
Overall, I am very glad I took ceramics. The techniques we used and the materials we used were all so cool, and I really liked the class. The experience will be unforgettable, and I am extremely proud of the effort and progress I made. I even learned more about myself. For example, I learned that I work very hard, but i can be impatient sometimes. This class was an amazing experience, and all the heard work I made was extremely worth it in the end.
